Couples Therapy

Even the healthiest partnerships have challenges. When two individuals commit to spending a lifetime or the foreseeable future together, they go into the relationship with the best of intentions and expectations. However, it’s human nature for conflicts to arise. Whether those conflicts can be resolved or remain unresolved, depends on both people, and their unique stories that have unfolded up to that point. At Heathrow Psychology, we utilize the latest approaches to help couples overcome not just current conflicts, but long-standing differences. A permanent change in the way partners interact and feel about the relationship requires a lot more than learning new ways of communicating. We will help you and your partner understand yourselves, one another, along with the how and why you got to this point. We will help you make the changes that will lead to a more loving and compassionate partnership. We will help you enjoy one another again.

Family Therapy

No two children grow up in exactly the same family. Every child is born into a family with their own innate personalities, and every parent interacts with each child differently. Hence, family dynamics are usually much more complicated than most of us think. Dynamics develop when a family is young, and continue to evolve and become long-lasting ways of functioning. However, like couples, every family faces challenges and conflicts. At Heathrow Psychology, we can help your family, or part of your family, learn how to resolve conflicts and interact in mature, loving, and compassionate ways.

Intensive Therapy

It has been our experience that short term, intensive therapy is just as effective, and many times more effective than weekly sessions for several months. An “intensive” will usually consist of two to four consecutive days of therapy, for four to six hours each day. You, you and your partner, or you and your family, would work intensely with Dr. Karlinsky or one of her associates, for the entire duration of treatment. Most people do not require regular sessions once their intensive is complete, and typically are seen on a monthly or bimonthly basis, as needed. This treatment approach allows your therapist to dive into YOUR unique experience and help you truly understand the emotions that drive your thinking, behavior, and the ways in which these emotions are playing out in your life now.

Play Therapy

In play therapy, the therapist uses toys and games to help children explore, express, and experience the difficulties they are working through in a safe space.  Through play, the therapist can is best able to gain insights they may not see otherwise.  By focusing on relationships and experiences, play therapy can create positive changes in the brains of children.  During play therapy, children explore their concerns and develop a therapeutic relationship to help regulate their emotions, ultimately leading to more adaptive behaviors.
